The SPPF Story
Susan's Pleasant Pheasant Farm opened its doors in 1992 as a Bed and Breakfast. Initially the mill house accommodated up to nine guests and the few boats were available for the guests to take out as they pleased. We had a farm with goats, sheep pheasants, and great Pyrenees dogs. We made our own goat cheese which we served along with pheasant eggs in the Bed and Breakfast.
The word spread that the wildlife and birdlife along with our grounds were incredible. Bald Eagles , Mergansers, Wood Ducks, Canada Geese, beaver, otter, mink, heron, osprey, etc., walking trails, swimming hole and our grounds became a strong attraction to the public. After no longer having farm animals, we decided to open the property to the public.
When Hurricane Irene hit our Historic Mill house in 2011, we completely renovated, rebuilt and immensely expanded our trails and grounds, purchased several types of watercraft and Disc Golf baskets for enjoyment. We always appreciated and participated in art, music, rockhounding, and have collected several wonderful items which are available for purchase. In addition to lodging, grounds and watercraft rentals, we have rocks, crystals, blown glass, paintings, art pieces, musical instruments, collectibles, and memorabilia to shop.
Open to the public now are over 100 watercraft, including our Row-Yak (we are first on the East Coast to have this amazing watercraft), SUP’s, canoes, tandems, single kayaks, etc., walking trails, swimming hole, fishing, picnic areas, retail treasures and have lodging that could accommodate a maximum of two people in our Lake-View Suite. Use of grounds and watercraft are complimentary for overnight guests.
